"What's it going to be then, eh?"
A Clockwork Orange is about a teenager, Alex, and his gang of "droogs", who hang out at local milk bar by day and commit serious crimes by night. It is a dystopian look on the future, where anarchy is eminent, and no one is safe. Alex is convicted of murder and sent to prison, where an experimental rehabilitation program takes place (Ludovico's Technique - where the participant is conditioned to associate their habit with pain - usually electric shocks), to detach him from his violent ways.
The best thing about this novel is the writing. While it may deter some, Anthony Burgess has created his own language, making for a wacky read unlike anything I have ever read.
By far my favourite classic, and one of my favourite novels of all time, highly recommended for someone who is after a gritty and raw, yet beautiful read.
