So I'm not someone who reads a lot of Young Adult (YA) novels, I usually prefer something with a bit more grit - but had heard a lot about Black and love a good Aussie author, so I gave it a go.
I don't want to spoil the read, but Black is a YA thriller about a girl called Ebony, a.k.a. Black, featuring a love story, a town secret and some horror twists. I was quite impressed by this novel and Fleur Ferris' writing captured me from the first page.
Towards the action-end of the book, I kept thinking to myself...I wish this book was twice the length with twice the detail and intensity, because Ferris' plot ideas and writing are great. For me personally, there were too many cheesy, almost predictable moments, and while still very entertaining, I would have liked to read a darker, pure thriller version of this novel.
Unorthodox, but I gave this book two different star ratings, one for YA readers and one for those who aren't. Still worth a read for anyone!
