lady sings the blues by billie holiday
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
This is one of my favourite biographies I have read - and I read a lot of biographies. While Lady Sings the Blues is ghostwritten by William Dufty, it still feels like I was experiencing Billie Holiday directly telling her story in her own language.
The biography follows Holiday from her rough childhood up until her fame, and I often found myself lost in her story and couldn't put it down.
Highly recommended, even if you are not a fan of her specifically, being submerged into the world of Billie Holiday was a cultural experience in itself.
