play it as it lays by joan didion

Play It as It Lays explores a snapshot of a darker side of life in Hollywood in the 1960's. The short novel follows one woman's experiences and thoughts throughout a select moment in time.

This was the first book I have read by Joan Didion, and I loved it. It was spooky and eerie, portraying a side we don't often see of a world so public and familiar to us.

A worthwhile read for a rainy day, uncomfortable and melancholic, yet something I look forward to reading again.
