In a quick summary, Throne of Glass is about Celaena, an assassin who has previously been captured and is chosen to fight in a competition with other criminals and soldiers to score the role of King's Champion, ultimately leading to her freedom.
Firstly, about the author, Sarah J. Maas - the girl can write!! I was captured from the start, and as someone who rarely reads fantasy, she transported me into the world of the characters, and I couldn't, nor did I want to, get out. I was worried the novel would be predictable, especially because being a series, we all know the main character has to live on to the next book -- but Maas kept me on my toes, and really managed to surprise me throughout.
In saying this, there were some areas which I struggled with the believeability of the relationships and interactions between the characters, at times lacking in sophistication, which rattled the mood of the overall story.
Well-deserving of the hype, Throne of Glass is an incredible book to get lost in. Lighter on the fantasy, but still had me on the edge of my seat, and left me wanting more. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
